Employment Opportunity – Emmet County Sheriff
The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office is now taking applications for a motivated candidate to
join our team of professional law enforcement officers as a patrol deputy
sheriff.
This position starts at $70,583.75 or $33.94 per hour with an additional
rate based upon previous experience and qualifications.
The current salary rate after five years of experience as of July 1st 2023
is $74,406.15 or $35.78 per hour. Starting deputies will have annual step increases for five years in
addition to any other salary increase.
In addition, overtime is available with this position at 1 ½ times the standard rate of pay, paid vacation, paid holidays, (approximately 4 weeks paid time off in the first year), sick benefit, paid employee health insurance, IPERS retirement system and an individually assigned take home patrol vehicle.
A successful applicant will need to be able to achieve and maintain necessary certifications and skill sets as required by the State of Iowa and the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, report to work on short notice and be available to work different shift schedules as needed including night shift, day shift, weekends and holidays, possess a high school diploma or GED as well as a safe driving record.
Lateral transfer of current Iowa certified officers will be accepted. All other applicants will be required to undergo a Civil Service Examination/POST (Police Officer Selection Test) and physical agility test. Top qualifiers must undergo a background investigation, psychological examination as well as other pre-employment testing.

Employment Opportunity – Emmet County Tele-Communicator
The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for a full time tele-communicator. This position comes with full time employment benefits including paid vacation, holiday pay, health insurance, life insurance, sick leave and an IPERS retirement program.
Duties include but are not limited to the ability to earn and maintain certifications as required by law and department policy, have the ability to read at close range and at distances, have normal color vision, hearing within the normal range, the ability to multi-task, be able to operate computer systems and other office equipment.
The starting wage is $20.56 per hour with step increases to $22.88

Part-Time Employment Opportunity
The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for a part-time communications operator.
No experience is necessary as candidates will be trained on their respective duties and responsibilities.
In addition, all necessary uniforms and equipment will be provided by the sheriff’s office.
A successful candidate will earn $25.00 per hour during and after training with overtime available after 40 hours per week.
This is a part-time position that does not accrue benefits and will be utilized as needed to supplement staffing levels.
